Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy is practiced at the Stevenage and Codicote osteopathic clinics and is a specialised treatment for which our practitioners have undergone extensive post-graduate training.  It is a very gentle and effective approach and helps to release tissue stresses and tensions in babies, children and adults.

Our practitioners can feel the very subtle rhythmic shape changes that are present in all body tissues and compare that rhythm with what they consider ideal.  Tension can disrupt the cranial rhythm and cranial osteopathy works on the basis that the bones of the skull move to accommodate the changes of the fluids and the brain within.

Treatment for babies and children

A well-known treatment for babies and children, cranial osteopathy is an extremely non-invasive gentle treatment.  Our cranial osteopath, Maria Costello will work very gently to relieve any tension held in the body and cranium which may have resulted from strains from the birth process or during gestation.

Anecdoctal evidence supports the use of cranial osteopathy for babies with colic type symptoms and in a research study conducted by osteopath Clive Hayden into the effects of cranial osteopathic treatment on babies, some parents perceived the following changes in their children’s behaviour: Reduced colicky crying, improved sleep, less unsettled irritable behaviour and increased quiet happy spells.

Mothers report that their babies and children become more settled and contented after cranial osteopathy treatments. If you would like to know more about cranial osteopathic treatments and how it can help your baby or child please call 01462 422760 or 07977 109664 and ask for Maria Costello.
